Jamie Dunbar fired by Middlesex Hospital

50 IN PROTEST OVER GAY SACKING

OVER 50 people demonstrated yesterday outside Middlesex Hospital over the sacking of Jamie Dunbar, a hospital porter who has been dismissed solely for wearing a gay badge. Other porters are allowed to wear other badges.

His trade union COHSE is representing him at three appeals, first the hospital administration then the area health authority then if necessary ACAS.

The administration stated that it was completely satisfied with his work. The National Council for Civil Liberties is supporting him and calling for his reinstatement.

Colm Clifford fired by The Express Milk Co.

TO ALL MY CUSTOMERS ON ROUND 12 :

My name is Colm Clifford, and I am the milk-man who has been delivering your milk for the past few months. You've probably noticed the badges I wear, which say, " Yes, I'm Homosexual Too " or " Glad to be Gay ". The Express Dairy have given me notice to quit, and I am due to be fired on Monday. THEY say that my badges would be upsetting YOU, the customers, and that YOU are likely to cancel your account because of me. If you feel this to be untrue - if you want to help me to keep my job, to keep me as your milkman, then please state how YOU feel about the company taking this decision on you behalf, by writing your comments below. Simply writing that you are satisfied with me as a milk-man, and see no reason why I should be sacked over the badges I wear should be sufficient. Please leave the torn-off sheet in your empty milk bottles, and I will collect them on Sunday.

Jamie Dunbar Suspended from The Ritzy

‘Oliver Twist' strike at Ritzy

THE RITZY cinema, Brixton, scene of many gay events, is now the scene of a strike. Workers have decided to with draw their labour in support of their colleague Jamie Dunbar (25) who claims he is being victimized for being like Oliver Twist and daring to ask for more. Jamie was one of the main figures in recent wage demands.

Jamie, a student, has been suspended on full pay from his part-time Sunday-nights-only job at the independent cinema where he has worked since March 1979.

Joint owner Pat Foster denied that the suspension had anything to do with the wage negotiations, Saying: "It was because of a very long history of disagreements between Jamie and most of the other members of staff.

Full-time worker Kate Webb, who will join Jamie and two other part-timers on a picket line said: "He has been sacked because the management feel that he has been stirring things up, and until other workers say ‘No, you can't just sack people for no reason’ it will happen again. I like my job there and want to work there and have job security.”
