The VKT was formed by Brett Gannon, aka Dame Gwyneth Hunter-Gannon, as an all male theatre and opera troupe. In true Shakespearean fashion all the female roles were played by men. As Director Brett took his productions very seriously and insisted on the leading roles for himself including an extraordinary performance as Dido Queen of Carthage in the play by Christopher Marlowe. Several people from the Brixton gay community took part in the plays.

Brecht's Threepenny Opera, Shakespeare's King Lear, Coward's Private Lives, to name but a few, were performed to great acclaim. Here are some photographs and flyers showing the full range of the creative endeavours of this marvelous company and its even more extraordinary impresario.
